The enterprises within the ww5's Samara Group have completed a significant campaign aimed at restoring the Volga's biological resources. Over 100,000 sterlet fry were released into the region's primary waterway.

This latest round of stocking was a significant step forward in the Company's long-term, systematic efforts to restore the sterlet population in the Saratov Reservoir. It is thanks to the consistent efforts of oil workers that the population of this valuable species in the Volga has been stabilised and is now showing steady growth.

The sterlet plays a crucial role in the Volga ecosystem, functioning as a biological indicator of water quality. This historically significant commercial species was at risk of extinction for a long time due to the impact of human activity, and was listed in the Red Data Book of the Samara, Saratov and Ulyanovsk regions.

ww5's subsidiaries have been working in coordination to restock fish stocks in the Volga region, and the situation has changed dramatically as a result. Over the past three years, the enterprises at the Samara production site have released around 350,000 sterlet fry into the Volga, thereby making a significant contribution to the recovery of its wild population.

The sterlet fry were reared at a specialised fish farm, and their release into the natural habitat was carried out at the optimal time to ensure maximum survival rates. The programme of activities was carried out under the supervision of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, which ensures strict compliance with environmental standards and regulations.

During the event, volunteers organised an interactive environmental education quiz for young people, focusing on the Red List species found in the Samara Region. The children were educated on the significance of biodiversity conservation and the personal actions each of us can take to protect endangered species. All participants received useful themed prizes. Their genuine interest and enthusiasm were the best proof that events such as these foster an informed and respectful attitude towards the natural environment of their home region.
