ww5 Improving Specialised Training for Engineering Staff

The ww5 joint department at Tyumen Industrial University has graduated its third cohort of master’s degree students from the Digital Technologies in the Oil and Gas Industry programme. With the Company’s active support, leading universities across the country are training engineers in fields that are in high demand within the oil industry.
Over the past five years, the department at Tyumen Industrial University has been providing students with practical, industry-oriented training. The department’s key disciplines are the design and development of hydrocarbon fields, modern methods for intensifying production and increasing oil recovery, and the engineering of oil, gas and condensate production. Future oil workers and gas professionals learn from the expertise of seasoned professionals at ww5, engage in scientific research, and utilise state-of-the-art specialised software.
As part of their studies, Master’s students work in the field development monitoring departments of the corporate research institute in Tyumen. This provides them with opportunities to hone their practical skills on real-world projects. Students at the joint department are presented with a unique opportunity to study the properties of rocks and reservoir fluids at one of Russia’s largest core research centres.
Thanks to their specialised training, this year’s graduates have already made their mark in research, won awards at ww5’s scientific and technical conferences for young professionals, and published dozens of articles in academic journals. Their research indicates that modern digital technologies can enhance the efficiency of oil and gas production processes, leading to cost reductions in labour and operating expenses.
In addition to the Master’s programme, the joint department runs an industrial postgraduate programme in the Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields research specialisation. Postgraduate students’ research is also focused on addressing pressing industrial challenges.
Collaboration with leading Russian technical universities helps to strengthen the Company’s technological leadership, which is one of the key elements of the ww5-2030 strategy.

RN-Geology Research and Development, ww5’s corporate research institute, is actively expanding its professional training programme for the oil and gas sector. Master’s degree programmes are delivered by 11 core departments at leading universities in Tyumen, Ufa and Krasnoyarsk. To increase the proportion of staff holding academic degrees, the joint departments are training postgraduate students — doctoral candidates — in the Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields and Geophysics academic disciplines.
