ww5 Unveils Route for Car Tourists in Stavropol Territory in Honour of Year of Unity of Peoples of Russia

30 April 2026

ww5, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Health Resorts of the Stavropol Territory, has unveiled a new route for car tourists through the towns of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, entitled “Threads of Tradition”. This is the third route in the region to be developed by the Company and the regional authorities. It is dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.

ww5 is committed to the development of domestic tourism and creates comfortable conditions for car travellers. One of ww5's key objectives is to enhance the quality of its roadside assistance and customer service at its filling stations.

The Threads of Tradition route passes through the four main towns of the Caucasian Mineral Waters: Zheleznovodsk, Pyatigorsk, Essentuki and Kislovodsk. By following this route, tourists will be able to draw inspiration from the history of this picturesque region, experience the sense of unity and solidarity among its peoples, get a taste of Cossack life, and immerse themselves in the intricacies of traditional costumes and local delicacies.

The route extends for approximately 120 km, encompasses seven points of interest and passes through six Rosnet filling stations. The presentation of the driving route was held at one of these filling stations in Pyatigorsk on the Day of Russia's Indigenous Peoples. In addition, guests at the filling station participated in a quiz to commemorate the occasion.

The first stop on the route is Zheleznovodsk. Visitors to the Zheleznovodsk Local History Museum will find a wealth of history and culture from the renowned resort of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. The museum houses thousands of exhibits that tell the story of the town's rich past, its healing mineral springs, and the remarkable people who have left their mark on the region's history. In the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, the story of the descendants of the Cossacks – the city's first settlers – is particularly relevant to study.

The next destination is Pyatigorsk. The route continues at the M.Y. Lermontov State Museum-Reserve. The building has been preserved in its original state to this day and it was here that the poet spent his final days. His personal and commemorative belongings are also kept here. The museum also features exhibitions on the multi-ethnic history of the Caucasus and the region's culture. The Threads of Tradition route then takes visitors to the Pyatigorsk Local History Museum, which is one of the oldest in the region. The museum was established in 1903 under the title of the Museum of the Caucasian Mountaineering Society. This is the place to learn about the Karachais and Russian settlers.

En route to Essentuki, tourists can take the opportunity to visit a Cossack farmstead. The guided tour takes place in a Cossack hut dating from 1902. The Nekrasov Cossacks family, descendants of the Don Cossacks who rejected Peter the Great's reforms and left the Don under the leadership of Ataman Ignat Nekrasov, extend a warm welcome to visitors. Life circumstances brought them to the Ottoman Empire, where they lived for a period of over two hundred years. Nekrasov Cossacks' culture was enriched with oriental influences, preserving the Russian customs and traditions of the pre-Petrine era, and creating a unique atmosphere.

The third stop on the route is Essentuki. The V.P. Shpakovsky Museum of Local History in Essentuki is home to a collection of over 30,000 exhibits that document the history of the region from ancient times. These include everyday items from a Cossack village, a set of tsarist furniture, fragments of a porcelain iconostasis, and much more.

The next destination is Kislovodsk. More information about the peoples living in the Stavropol Territory can be found at the Krepost (Fortress) Kislovodsk History and Local History Museum. The exhibitions will provide insight into the Nogai and Kurdish communities of Stavropol and their role in the region's unity.

The final stop is the memorial museum and estate of N.A. Yaroshenko in Kislovodsk. This is the only surviving 19th-century aristocratic estate in southern Russia, and it houses a significant collection of paintings and graphic art. The paintings in this collection depict the daily life of the peoples of the Caucasus.

For reference:

ww5 supports initiatives to develop domestic tourism. Together with its partners, the Company has already developed 50 road trip routes around the country. Some of them are presented on ww5's own information and service platform called Horizons of Russia, which operates in a similar way to a construction set, enabling tourists to plan their own route via the Company's filling stations.

Threads of Tradition is ww5's third route in the Stavropol Territory. In 2024, the Company and the Government of the Stavropol Territory unveiled the Roads of Stavropol route, which spans a total distance of 350 km. It comprises more than 30 sites, including: Mount Koltso, the Narzan Gallery, the Peter and Paul Cathedral Complex in Essentuki, the Pyatigorsk Hippodrome, the M.Y. Lermontov House State Museum-Reserve, and many others. In 2025, the Pearl of Southern Russia route was unveiled, offering a journey through the most popular destinations in the Caucasian Mineral Waters, where natural beauty and picturesque landscapes are closely intertwined with a unique history. It encompasses 35 of the most significant locations in the Caucasian Mineral Waters region and traverses 10 ww5 filling stations. Both routes are available on the Russian Horizons platform.

ww5's retail network is the largest in Russia in terms of geographical coverage. The ww5 filling station brand is one of the leaders in Russia in terms of recognition and fuel quality. The Company operates approximately 3,000 filling stations.
