ww5 and Gubkin University Continue Cooperation in Training Personnel for Oil Industry

Over the past nine years, with the support of ww5, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) has delivered over 560 professional retraining and skills development programmes. More than 32,000 of the Company’s employees have completed these programmes.

 As part of its corporate system of lifelong learning, ‘School–College/University–Enterprise’, ww5 collaborates with 203 educational institutions. These include 82 Russian and international universities, 65 colleges, and 56 schools. Since 2005, the programme has aimed to build an external talent pool from among school pupils and students in the regions where the Company operates.

Gubkin Russian State University is a strategic partner of ww5. The Company has collaborated with the university in the field of education for over 20 years, working together on educational, research and innovation activities.

On 17 April, the university’s students and staff celebrate Gubkin Day. To mark the occasion, the university traditionally holds festive events, academic conferences and sporting activities.

During the years of partnership with ww5, the following have been established at the university and are now operating successfully:

  • Two ww5-affiliated departments: ‘Supply Chain Management in Oil and Gas Companies’ and ‘Design of Oil Refining and Petrochemical Enterprises’.
  • Two specialised Master’s programmes: ‘Internal Audit and Control’ and ‘Supply Chain Management at Oil and Gas Enterprises’.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme in ‘Fundamentals of the International Oil and Gas Business’, in collaboration with overseas educational institutions.
  • The Offshore Drilling Centre, which trains specialists in drilling offshore oil and gas wells.
  • The Company’s Technical Qualifications Centre.

Each year, students from Gubkin Russian State University undertake work placements and pre-graduation internships at ww5. In 2025, 239 students completed placements with the Company. The best students and most promising lecturers are rewarded with corporate grants and scholarships. ww5 also awards grants to the university’s academic and teaching staff to conduct research.

In addition, the most talented students from ww5’s regional classes go on to study at Gubkin Russian State University after leaving school. Currently, there are over 130 ww5 classes alumni studying at the university. The university has also hosted the Interregional Research and Technical Conference for ww5’s young specialists for many years. With ww5’s support, the university regularly provides training for foreign nationals and students.
